Baby Food Making

First taste of baby food, carrots
When Sawyer was a baby, my mother and I got together every week and made his baby food. We would visit the farmer's market or produce section at the grocery store and experiment with all different types of food for him.

Now that Scout is old enough to try foods, we have started the tradition again. We have already made carrots and sweet potatoes...he has approved of both. My mom found small containers at Dollar General (4 for $1) since I had thrown all Sawyer's out. They are the perfect size.

To  help other Moms out there who might be going through this same stage, I have compiled my entire list of baby food recipes in this one blog, in order.

For us, it saved money but also was comforting to know exactly what we are feeding our boys.
Let me know if you have any questions!
Have fun!

Kitchen Experiments: Trail Mix Smoothie

As I have mentioned before (see last kitchen experiments post here) I am a huge fan of B2 CafĂ©(Bambino’s) and stop in there at least once a week for a smoothie fix. John, Sawyer and I love the Trail Mix Active Smoothie, it is our favorite by far. I decided I would attempt creating the smoothie at home, to get our fix any day of the week. The one from B2 has mocha but I swapped and added a few healthy items. I think it is pretty darn close!

 INGREDIENTS (for 2 smoothie)

2 cups milk (we use local Ozark Mountain Creamery)
2 banana
½ cup PB2 powdered peanut butter
1 cup Granolove Peanut Butter Chocolate (Moka Java is also yummy)
2 tbsp. Chia Seed
3 tbsp. Flax Seed
Cinnamon (to taste)
1 tsp. honey

STEPS

  1.  Just throw all items in a blender and mix. If it is too runny a cup of ice blended will help thicken.
  2. Enjoy!

Kitchen Experiments with Sawyer: Chocolate Chip Banana Cookies

One of our favorite places is the new Bambino's Smoothie Cafe B2, we go there at least once a week for the Trail Mix Smoothie (I have a blog post on our version coming soon). Sawyer asked for a cookie on one of our last trips and we have now found our favorite cookie...The Chocolate Chip Banana. It's light, fluffy and almost muffin like. I decided it would be a fun experiment to have Sawyer help me make some at home. Sawyer was a great help for his first cookie baking experience, it actually held his attention the whole time. We will definitely be trying out more recipes soon.
Here's our version:

Chocolate Chip Banana Cookies

Ingredients:

1 C. butter
2 C. sugar
3 eggs
3 medium mashed ripe bananas
4 C. flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. baking powder
