One Year Checkup & Big boy changes at School

Sawyer had his 1 Year Pediatrician check-up yesterday afternoon. While his stats came in awesome, he ended up having to get 4 shots and a blood draw,  yikes!!! His weight and height have improved immensely!!

His last checkup was Dec. 6, 2012 and he weighed 17 lbs. (20th percentile), was 27 1/2 inches tall (15th percentile) with a head circumference of 17 1/2 inches.

Now at his one year, he weighs 22 pounds (60th percentile) is 30 inches tall (50th percentile) and has a head circumference of 17.9 inches (35th percentile). Huge improvement!!!

The blood draw was to check his hemoglobin level since he was breastfeed for a year. They want to make sure he was getting enough iron. Turns out he wasn't, because his levels came back low which means he is anemic. We start iron supplements today (3x daily) and they want us to come back in a month for another blood draw to see how his levels are. Poor guys was very sore this morning from all the shots and we are keeping him on a regular regimen of Tylenol until the pain goes away.

On a positive note, today at school since he turned one, is the first day of him eating all regular food/milk and moving from a crib to a cot!! His teacher was kind enough to send me some pics, looks like he is adjusting very well!!
Malt o Meal and Berries for breakfast
Yep, he finished it all up
Lunch was lasagna, green beans and tropical fruit
Got to spend lunch with him, eating all by himself.

Sawyer's new cot
Looks cozy to me!

SUC training: Week 5

With each new challenge they reveal, I get more excited!!

This week was WAY better than the previous week. My knees felt so much better. I decided to do some experimenting with all the different shoes I own (I have way to many pairs of running shoes) to see if it made a difference on my knee pain, and it sure did. Surprisingly, the shoe I thought would be the worst (Nike Air Max) because of how heavy they are, were the best. I guess the extra cushion helped my knee. My Reebok Flex were terrible even though they are so light, they killed my knees. I even ran my fasted 3 miles of training Friday with an 8 mile an hour pace. I did Pump Thursday and it was great! I have really missed it! I wasn't too sore, so next time I plan to add more weight.

Week 5 Plan:
No more interval running, this week it is two-3 mile runs and one-4 mile run. With about 6 weeks left of training, I think I am right on track with to be able to run the full 12K. My main goal is to work on my strength & . This week for my cross training I am going to do Body Combat Wednesday and plan to do a class Friday evening also.

Sawyer: 12 Months

Sneak peak at Sawyer's 1 Year Session
He wasn't a fan of cake to our surprise.

Here is a recap of all his monthly photos this past year

At 3:59 p.m. today, we will officially have a 1 year old!!!! Fastest year of my life! When I think about the day we first laid eyes on Sawyer I get very emotional like it was so long ago. I went through and looked through all his first photos, videos and blog posts yesterday and was in awe at how different he looks. He has become a little man full of personality. I am proud to say I made my goal of nursing for a full year!!! This is probably the most rewarding/fufilling goals I have ever completed. There were times I didn’t think we would make it but I would pray about it and we would keep on truckin’. I started weaning him last week with cutting out his lunch feeding, this was extremely difficult….for me. Sawyer did great, I had issues not seeing him during the day. We both are more adjusted now and this week we will start cutting out the harder feedings of morning and bedtime. This is his comfort time so I am sure it will be a few days of tears.

Best moment of my life!

If you feel like reminiscing with me...here are a couple posts from when he arrived:

Stats this month

Loves to kiss now

Weight: 21, we are no longer worried he is too skinny…this boy has chunked up!

Length: 30 inches (we think, will find out Monday at his 1 year checkup)

Eating: Still Nursing!!! But only 2 feedings a day, and this will soon go to 1 and then 0. He is also now drinking organic whole milk to replace the breast milk and eats everything we eat.  New foods he has tried are Grapefruit (loves) and watermelon (not a fan, yet)

Sleeping: Still a great sleeper. Sleeps 9-10 hours a night and loves to take really long weekend naps (2-3 hrs). At school he is only now taking 1 nap for about an hour. And this week we moves from a crib to a cot at school.

Clothing: Wearing 9-12 month clothes, still a little long but looks much better. Moved up to size 5 shoe. Can still fit some of his 4s.

Diapers: size 4

Playing: Has started to enjoy playing by himself and he will talk to his toys, it is adorable. He loves to run and throw balls and climb stairs! Getting really good at his shape sorter by finding the right shapes for the right spots. I love when he grabs a book and brings it too me to read to him, he will sit down for about one page and then he is off again. My favorite new trick he does is blowing raspberries on my belly. He will pull up my shirt and blow until he makes noise, it is hilarious!

Talking: He has been saying all types of new words. New words are “bye, bye”, "clap" and “duck”. He sometimes sounds like he is trying to say “grandma” and “grandpa”. He has full conversations in baby talk with inflection, you can tell he is listening to how we talk. He also sings, expecially in church during the hymns.

Teething: Sawyer still has 6 but I spotted a new one on the bottom to the right of his other 2.

Other developments: He has started to clap and even says "clap, clap" (see video). He even clapped the other day when my mom picked him up from school. He has started waving bye bye too. He is running and walking everywhere. Just last night John and I would say "stomp, stomp" and he would stomp like he is marching.  He also loves to kiss, he will grab your face and try to kiss you, I love it! This morning when I asked "where's your belly", he  grabbed his belly...he also located my belly!

Shower your Sweetie Day......

I am not a huge Valentine's Day mostly because I think you should show your sweetie you love them everyday. But since it is Sawyer's first, I decided I would partake (a little). I made John a funny little card (and yes I only have one Baby Daddy) and left him love notes on the mirror. Sawyer brought some valentine's to school for all of his friends. My mom was so sweet and got him a little surprise for when she picks him up today, he is going to love it. John took me out to lunch to St. Michael's, it was very romantical!!

left love notes for John with a little card I made.

SUC training: Week 4

Training seems to be flying by, which is good but scaring because the race gets closer. This week was definitely more challenging for me because my knees have decided that they aren't so much on board. I have always had "plica" issues (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2684145/) like I have mentioned before and I knew it was only a matter of time before it started flaring up again. I have continued to run and train and when it gets to be unbearable I plan to call my doctor to see what is going on. I am use to running with some pain so I hope I can preserve (I know probably not the best plan).

Week 3 recap: I ran 3 days with interval training except the last day was a straight 35 minute run. My cross training was Body Combat (martial arts & kick boxing) and Hot Yoga at Sumit.

Week 4 Plan: Run 3 days and cross train 2 days. No more interval training and just 2.5 mile runs all week. I am doing Body Pump thursday with Trina. I haven't done body pump since this summer and have missed it so much. It is an hour long weight lifting, strength building class. Still up in the air on my 2nd cross training day, probably something on saturday but I haven't decided yet.

SUC's facebook page posted another challenge on their website and it looks AWESOME!! Can't wait for this one.
