Scout // 10 months

I swear Scout is trying to outdo his brother! Last week, he took his first steps (about 3)! While he isn’t officially walking, he is very close. Sawyer also walked at a little over 10 months, so I can already sense a sibling rivalry budding with these two. Scout’s personality compliments his brothers, like yin and yang; He is feisty like him, but with a calmer, relaxed side. I can’t wait to see how their relationship evolves and the bond that builds.

Sawyer was a full 2 lbs smaller than Scout at this time and shorter as well. Sawyer was definitely talking more but most everything is the same.
Here is Sawyer at 10 months:

Scout’s 10-month stats
weight: 20 lbs. 9 oz. - at 9 months he was 19 lbs. 9 oz.

height: 29 inches - at 9 months he was 28.5

clothing: 12 months, 12-18 months. Wears size 3 and 4 shoes

diapers: Size 4 – just moved him to the bigger size yesterday

eating: Nursing and eating table food. He will eat anything we put in front of him, loves pizza and anything involving bread! He really likes cantaloupe but isn’t a fan of watermelon.

sleeping: usually sleeps from about 7:30 p.m. - 6 a.m. Last week he went 4 nights of terrible sleeping, would wake up every time we put him down, we took him to the doctor because we thought it might be an ear infection but she thinks it was just separation anxiety. Luckily it has passed and he is back to his normal schedule.

teething: 4 teeth, his top two and bottom two

other updates: He is getting brave…will stand without holding on for up to 10 seconds and has even taken two steps! Starting to explore with his teeth too, and has bitten us a few times. One of my favorite things is his singing (see video below); he imitates the songs we sing with hand motions and all (Itsy Bitsy Spider, Happy and You Know It, etc.). He claps, waves, does the “more” sign language, and even folds his hands when we pray at mealtime. He says “dada”, “hi”, “baba” but still no “mama”. Sawyer and Scout are still best buds and are starting to really play together!

Scout // 9 Months

Once again, I am four days late on my post but this time I was actually able to get stats from Scout's doctor's appointment. Scout is 39 weeks which means he has been in the outside world now longer than he was inside (he surprised us at 38 weeks). The second child seems to go so much faster. I am sad to admit, I failed to get his picture taken with the Easter bunny for his first Easter. I do feel really bad about it but hopefully he will forgive me.

Scout is all over the place now, trying to walk and keep up with Sawyer. It is crazy how quickly they become mobile! He is still super happy with such a joyful disposition, this boy is always smiling!

Sawyer was quite a bit smaller and this age, we were trying to figure out why he wasn't getting enough milk. Once we figured that out, he starting to bulk up. Sawyer was talking and moving a little bit more, but still very close.

Scout 9 Month stats

weight: 19 lbs 9 oz. (48.5 percentile) - at 8 months he was 18 lbs 6 oz.

height:  28.5 inches (56.7 percentile) - at 8 months he was 27.5

clothing: 9-12 months,  12 month. Wears size 2-3 shoes

diapers: Size 3 - same as last month

eating: Still nursing and eating everything that is allowed. Able to try more table food options as well. He just tried cottage cheese, shredded cheese, beans and yogurt. He still isn't a huge fan of the meats but when we mix it with other veggies, he likes it. Grandpa even let him try a little ice-cream!

sleeping: Still sleeping great and sleeping from about 7:30 - 6 a.m. We have noticed about 2-3 nights out of each month he gets a little fussy and will walk up but it seems to be linked to teething and/or new milestones (crawling, standing, etc.)

teething: 2 little bottom teeth popped up about 4 days after his 8-month birthday.

other updates: He really wants to walk! He has been standing and letting go without even realizing it. He loves his jumper and walker, especially when we go outside. One thing his Parents as Teacher rep was impressed with was his ability to hold on and then lean down to pick items up as well as his pincher grasp (using the index finger and thumb to pick up small objects). He does great picking up small food items, like puffs or cereal, and even small blocks. He is still only saying "dada" and "hi" but no "mama" yet. I swear he says "hi doggie" too while looking out the window at Bowie.

Scout // 8 Months

For the last 7 months, I was actually able to do a post the day Scout had his monthly birthday until  this month...I am 4 days late. I will give myself credit for making it that long.

I think this month had the biggest amount of milestones. He is officially mobile and loving every minute! His brother, not so much! I actually saw Sawyer pulling Scout by the leg the other day prying him off one of his toys.

Here is Sawyer at 8 months. Big differences are that Sawyer had teeth, was attempting to walk, and was saying Mama. Also Scout has now past Sawyer in size, Sawyer was only wearing 6-9 month still:  Sawyer 8 Months

Scout 8 Month stats

weight: 18 lbs 6 oz.  at 7 months he was 17 lbs 8 oz.

height:  27.5 at 7 months he was 27 inches

clothing: 9-12 months. And just 12 month tops. Wears size 2 and 3 shoes.

diapers: Size 3 - same as last month

eating: He is eating a lot more table food and baby foods. he has even tried cut up avocado and bananas, pancakes, animal  crackers, vanilla wafers, and ritz crackers. He is on the same schedule as last month but eating a lot more food and not waking up to nurse in the night.

sleeping: He is doing great at night (knock on wood). He nurses about 7 p.m., and I wake him up to nurse about 6 a.m. The past 2 weeks, he hasn't woken up once in the middle of the night to eat, maybe only a couple times briefly waking up and then falling back to sleep once we give him his pacifier. I really hope it isn't a phase.

teething: Still nothing but has learned to chew food anyway. It still appears something is trying to pop out because of the way he chews and drools.

other updates: He is officially crawling and pulling up on things. He first crawled a week after his 7 month birthday and then about 1 week later he crawled up the stairs at our house, and then a week after that he was pulling up and standing in his crib and all over our house. His school even sent me a video (below) of him completely crawling up the stairs to the slide at school. He proceeding to try to go down the slide too. This boy needs to slow down. Other developments include moving his hands to do the actions with Itsy Bitsy Spider, still only saying Dada and Hi, waving and clapping. He also is trying to do the sign language for "more" when we eat. He also has officially sat at the "big kid" table at school, I am so proud.

Here are a few more photos/video from the month:

Scout // 7 months

Another month down and I am still in awe at home fast these little people learn....you quickly forget from baby 1 to baby 2. One big thing that happened since last month was he had surgery. We didn't post much about it because it involves what some would consider sensitive subject matter but as you know, we like to share our experience in hope of helping others going through the same thing. He had Hypospadias surgery which involved redirecting his urethra, which we discovered had a 90 degree curve and pointed downward instead of up. We traveled to St. Louis to have the surgery with specialist Dr. Palagiri at Mercy Children's. The scariest part for me was the Caudal Block anesthesia, which is similar to an epidural. Well, we are a week and a half out from surgery and he is healing great! The first few days were rough and it involved dressing changes and soaks but by day 5, the dressing came off and he was practically back to his old self. We have to avoid any type of straddle toys until after our 1 month follow up. After all the healing is done, you won't ever know he had surgery. I did learn that not only is Scout a tough cookie but pain is definitely mental.

Here is Sawyer at 7 months. Size is almost identical but the big differences are Sawyer was crawling and had his two bottom teeth. He had also already started saying Mama: Sawyer 7 Months

Scout 7 Month stats

weight: 17 lbs 8 oz. - at 6 months he was 16 lbs 8 oz.

height: 27 in. - at 6 months he was 27 inches

clothing: 6-9 months and 9-12. Wears size 2 shoes - same as last month

diapers: Size 3 - same as last month

eating: we have dropped a bottle at school so he has a pretty strict routine. Nurse at 6 am, oatmeal at 8:30 am, nurse at 11:30 am, veggie/fruit at 2:30 pm, nurse at 5:30, veggie/fruit with oatmeal at 6:30 and then he goes to be about 7 pm. If he wakes int he middle of the night I nurse as well. We have starting trying puffs and teething biscuits and he seems to like both.

sleeping: He had a rough couple days last week after surgery and we think he is teething but besides that he has gone back to sleeping most of the night (7 pm - 5/6 am)

teething: As I mentioned last month, we thought he had two teeth coming in. But when we went to the pediatrician she said what we thought was a tooth was actually a cyst (nothing painful or an issue) that will eventually go away. It looks exactly like a little tooth popping through, ha! He is drooling and chewing on everything though, so I imagine something is trying to come through.

other updates: New this month is he is trying to wave and clap and lots of noises that sounds like he is trying to talk. He still isn't officially crawling but getting around by dragging himself. He gets up on all four and rocks but hasn't gotten himself to propel forward.

Here are a few more photos from the month
