Camp Out!

Sawyer got to experience his first overnight camping trip last weekend for Memorial Day.
We met the Johnson's at Nemo Landing at Pomme de Terre where they camp every year with their family and some family friends. They have it down to a science with a cool little set up and awesome camp fire meals. It was Megan's birthday weekend too, so we celebrating that as well. We borrowed our friend Nick's pop-up camper because sleeping in a tent at 8 months pregnant didn't sound too enjoyable. Sawyer loved the pop-up! We luckily had great weather Friday and Saturday but it stormed Saturday night into Sunday morning. That didn't stop Sawyer from having a blast though. Him and Elliot had a hay day in the rain, splashing in puddles and playing in the water table. This trip was also the first time he experiences s'mores, a new favorite.  He was so pooped he fell asleep Saturday night at 7:30 PM and slept until the morning and when we got back he took a 4-hour nap! He is already asking when we get to go camping again!

Weekend in Pictures: Memorial Day 2013

Memorial Day to me is like the kick-off to summer mixed with a send off to spring. It reminds me of all the things I love about this time of year...the pool, bbqs, finally letting my legs feel the sun, sitting out in the grass in a lawn chair even if it means mosquito bites and having the sun out until well after 8:00 pm.
This was Sawyer's second Memorial Day and we had a busy one (are you surprised?). Sawyer's vocabulary exploded with new words like "helicopter", "caterpillar", "umbrella" and "firetruck". We had nothing less than a jam packed weekend of activities, here are the pictures...

Bringing our backyard back to life

Memorial Weekend was so busy! We decided we needed to spruce up our backyard because we had enough of the ugly bushes (it only took us 6 years). It was quite the undertaking but we am so relieved it is done. Now we just have to wait for the plants to come in! We planted elephant ears and gladioli bulbs along the lattice so I will post a final picture when they are all grown in.
BEFORE...yuck!
After a shovel, axe and hedge trimmers we (JOHN) finally got the bushes out.
The crazy bushes are gone!
