Kitchen Experiments: Peanut Butter No-Bake Bars

Yep, here's another peanut butter recipe. I just can't help my self, no baking + peanut butter, how could I not share?

Peanut Butter No-Bake Bars

Ingredients

1 cup salted butter (melted)
2 cups graham cracker crumbs
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 3/4 cup powdered sugar
1 cup peanut butter
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 (11 oz) bag milk chocolate chips

Steps

  1.  Combine all ingredients, except chocolate chips in a medium sized bowl.
  2. Stir until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
  3. Pour peanut butter mixture into a 9x13 pan.
  4. Melt chocolate chips in the microwave (at 50% power) for 1-2 minutes.
  5.  Stir chocolate and pour over the peanut butter mixture.
  6. Spread chocolate with a spatula. To even out chocolate, tap pan on the counter.
  7. Refrigerate bars for one hour. Cut while bars are still cool.
  8. Enjoy!

Ooh I like that: Disposable Placemats & Potty Seat

You never know how clean tables really are!
Eating & potty training are two things that are constantly on the minds of most parents of a toddler? So you could only imagine there are a ton of products that help makes these things easier and more convenient. We have recently purchased a couple new products that help with these things that we find to be helpful so we thought we’d share.

Clean Eatin’: Neat Solutions Disposable Placemats

You know those hooks in the aisles at the grocery store that have products you usually don’t need but that are so tempting? Well that is how I ended up with Neat Solutions Disposable Placemats.  It was definitely worth it, these little guys have sticky edges to apply to any table (picnic, restaurant, patio, etc) to ensure a sanitary eating space for your kiddo. Even better, it is easy clean up when it’s time to leave. We have the Sesame Street ones and Sawyer loves going through each of the characters and saying their names. I have also seen the reusable place mats at Babies R Us but we prefer the disposable (sorry environment) simply because who wants to carry around a messy place mat until you can clean it off.
You can get 18 for about $10. Online they have larger quantities too.

Potty Time: Munchkin Arm & Hammer 3-in-1 Potty Seat

I have always heard boys are harder than girls to Potty Train, so we figured might as well show Sawyer what it is all about early. We talk to him very openly and for the past few months, he has been very interested in the toilet…opening the seat, flushing, sitting on it. His grandma even went ahead and bought him a little toilet. To our surprise, he actually wanted to use it (this is probably a phase). 4 days in a row he successfully went in the potty, so of course we are big fans of the training potty she bought!! It is the Munchkin Arm & Hammer 3-in-1 Potty Seat. A few of it’s standout features are that it is not only a Potty Chair but a training seat to put on any normal size toilet AND a step stool. Even better is we have been using it for a bench to sit on when we give Sawyer a bath. It also has a built-in air freshener and wipes. We looked at just the training seat but it was only about $10 less than the full potty. You can find them at Walmart for only $24.71.

Weekend in Pictures: Firetrucks, Housewarming, Lake and more....

Summer time is in full force!  Friday night, we went to check out the new Fire truck at Historical Firehouse #2 on Commercial street. We thought that would be right up Sawyer's alley, he loved it!
Saturday was another afternoon at the pool. And that night was very special for my best friend Trina. She had her housewarming party to celebrate her new beautiful home. John & Tim were the grill masters and her closest friends & family came to enjoy her new abode. After the party we even went out for some pool & dancing at Springfield's oldest bar, Silver Leaf (thanks mom & dad for watching Sawyer).
Sunday we spent the day at Fellows lake. It was a super HOT day but we still had fun fishing, going for boat rides and feeding the ducks/carp. Unfortunately, we ended the weekend with a trip to Urgent Care, what we thought was Sawyer having bad allergies turned into Pink Eye, Double Ear Infection and Sinus Infection. Poor guy, he looks miserable. He is on the mend now with a strong dose of antibiotics and lots of rest.

Threw a fit when he had to get out.

Looking Good!

Weekend in Pictures: Family Reunion & Father's Day

We attended our first Hamra/Homra Family Reunion as a family this past weekend in Hot Springs, Arkansas. They have been hosting the reunion for many many years although John hasn't attended since he was in middle school. Friday night, his grandfather's sister-in-law Carolyn hosted a cocktail party at her beautiful home in Little Rock. After drinks, we all went to dinner together at this adorable little restaurant Caper's.

Saturday, we drove to Hot Springs for the rest of the festivities. We had such a wonderful time and we loved getting to introduce Sawyer to all the other family & kiddos. He LOVED the dancing & swimming (see dancing videos HERE). We drove back Sunday and were able to meet John's Mom in Harrison for lunch. When we arrived back in Springfield we also celebrating Father's Day with my parents. We swam a little and made ice cream sundaes (my dad choose a root beer float). Overall, it was a busy family weekend but a great way to celebrate the awesome Dads we have in our lives.
